Ten years. That’s how long it’s been since we started this little creative experiment that eventually became Blue Griffin. Back then, it was just me (Lucas) and my wife, Hannah Forsythe, figuring things out one project at a time. We were two freelancers building a life—and a business—on coffee, creativity, and the hope that our skills might actually help people.
Today, we’re a growing agency. We’ve sharpened our focus, expanded our team, and helped some incredible clients tell their stories with clarity and confidence. But even as the scope of our work has grown, one thing hasn’t changed: we’re still about people. Relationships are our secret sauce—and always will be!
This milestone isn’t just about us. It’s about the clients who believed in us, the mentors who encouraged us, and the partnerships that challenged us to do better. Whether we worked together last month or five years ago, we can’t thank you enough! You’re part of our story.
Where We Started: The Spark
In 2014, we launched Forsythe Creative as an umbrella for all our creative work: photography, videography, graphic design, writing, and more. I shot weddings on weekends with some fantastic photographers, and dabbled in everything from branding local businesses to writing food blog content. It was creative chaos, but it laid the groundwork.
And looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. All that cross-disciplinary experience gave us the perspective we needed to understand how it all fits together. When we help a client today, we’re not just thinking about one tactic—we’re thinking about how their big-picture story plays out across platforms and bite-sized memorable moments.
The name Blue Griffin came later, in 2021, during a rebrand that marked our transition from a lifestyle consultancy to a true creative agency. (You can read more about that here.) But the heart behind it—the desire to blend thoughtful words with beautiful visuals—was there from day one.
Finding Focus: Storytelling, Design, and Strategy
It didn’t take long to realize we were gravitating toward a specific type of work: strategic, story-driven marketing. We’ve worked across multiple industries, but one niche began to stand out: technical brands in science, engineering, healthcare, and technology. These are the fields that lit me up as a kid (I took engineering classes right alongside creative writing in college), and they’re where we have consistently found our sweet spot.
I love working with technical subject matter experts. They’re on a whole other level, and sometimes it’s like they speak a different language. I love digging into complex ideas, asking the right questions, and creating content that’s not just accurate but engaging and accessible.
And here’s the kicker: because we’re starting with real, human conversations, we’re often creating content that doesn’t exist anywhere else online. These aren’t remixes—they’re original, authentic marketing pieces. That’s something AI can’t do. It’s something only people can do together.
The Consulting Element: Connecting the Dots
Before Blue Griffin, I worked in both agency and in-house settings. My last “real” position was the communications director at a large church in Tulsa. It was like running an internal agency—marketing a non-stop stream of programs and events while maintaining the bigger brand. That job shaped how I think about marketing. I wasn’t just making content; I was trying to make everything make sense.
Today, I like to think I’ve become the kind of helper I wish I had back then. Someone to bring structure, connect goals, and make sure all the great ideas are actually working together. That mindset—strategy first, then content, then design—has become a core part of how we serve our clients.
Where We Are: Relationships and Real Results
These days, we focus on what we do best: brand messaging, graphic design, content marketing, and custom WordPress websites. We still bring in photography and video when it makes sense, and I get to collaborate with my sister Maria—our video director—who brings her own creative brilliance to the team.
And speaking of talent, we wouldn’t be where we are today without some partnerships with fellow creatives and marketers like James Bullis, Mike DeSart, and Rebekah Mays—contractors who have fit right into our micro agency team for big projects or niche content. So thank you!
Most importantly, we’re still relationship-first. Our clients aren’t just transactions—they’re collaborators. You never have to wonder who you’re going to talk to, or who’s doing the actual work on your project. We walk through the whole process together, ask thoughtful questions, listen well, and build trust as we go. That’s part of the process we never want to lose.
What’s Next: Scaling Success
This year, we welcomed Ally Lightle as our new account manager—an exciting step that’s already had a big impact on how we serve and scale. I’ve also been learning from some incredible local leaders and investing in how I show up for our team and our clients.
Looking ahead, we’d love to keep growing from a “micro” to a small agency. But not at the cost of what makes us different. We’re scaling with intention—building a team that’s not just talented, but aligned with our values of clarity, creativity, and human connection.
Thank You (Really)
If you’re reading this and we’ve worked together in the past, thank you! You trusted us. You challenged us. You helped shape who we are today.
And if it’s been a while, or you have yet to connect, please shoot us a message! We would love to make you a part of this next chapter.
Here’s to 10 more years of doing meaningful work with great people. Let’s keep building something amazing—together.
